| Solheim Cup
The women’s game is now a serious challenger to men’s golf in terms of competitiveness, and as a result in the past twenty years many of the men’s events have become duplicated within the LPGA. One such event is the Solheim Cup, and it is the women’s version of the Ryder Cup. Played between women professional golfers from the United States and Europe, the Solheim Cup is now held in the highest esteem. First held in 1990, the cup is now held every other year, in the gap between Ryder Cups. As with the Ryder Cup, the top professionals from Europe and the United States are picked based on points and prize money, with additional captain’s picks. The format is also the same as the Ryder Cup with twenty eight matches taking place over three days. The twenty eight matches comprise of eight foursomes, eight four ball matches and the traditional final day twelve single golf matches.
