| The Bunker
Most courses have some sort of hazard to make the game of golf more difficult, let’s face it if it was just a case of hitting the ball then there would be a lot more players competing for prize money. The most common hazard is the sand bunker, and is a simple hole where the soil and turf have been removed and replaced with some sand. Some bunkers are deep and small, and some are shallow and extremely large, some courses will also surround the green with bunkers for added difficulty. In general though there is no penalty for ending up in a bunker, although it just makes it more difficult for the next golf shot to be played, certainly a lot harder than playing from the fairway or green. Any golfer though does need to beware the possibility of a two stroke penalty for grounding the golf club, or hand, before a shot is played.
