| The Walker Cup
The main team events within golf are considered to be the likes of the Ryder Cup, President’s Cup and Solheim Cup. These cups though are all aimed at the professional golfer, and the amateur game as a result is often overlooked. The Walker cup though is one of the oldest team golf events dating back to 1920, and is open only to amateur golfers. The basic premise for the Walker Cup is the same as the original Ryder Cup and there has been only limited evolvement, unlike the changes made to the professional cup. As such the Walker Cup is competed for by amateurs from the United States against those from Great Britain and Ireland, not the Europe team. There are also fewer variations involved with only singles and foursomes being competed between the teams. Being an amateur event as well there is not the prize money involved in this team golf event.
