| Water Hazards
Another common feature of many golf courses is the water hazard, and in essence it is just a wet version of a bunker. A water hazard may come in many different formats, be it the sea for a links course, a pond, a lake, marsh or ditch, but simple rules apply to all of them. As long as the water hazard is in bounds then a golfer can play a shot from where it has come to rest. This often results in the humorous sight of a golfer rolling up their trousers or stripping down to their underwear to play a shot.
There is though an alternative to getting wet, and most players tend to take a one stroke penalty to replay the ball either from the original point of play or from a point further away from the hole, normally in line from the golf tee to the hole.
